Slaughterhouse wastewater often generates wastewater in the industrial slaughter process, washing equipment and plants, and the production of by-products. The wastewater include of the organic pollutants, oil, protein and fibres. The quality of slaughterhouse effluent depends on many factors, such as blood retention efficiency, water use, type of slaughtered animal and amount of meat processing. The construction of the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant with a capacity of 120 m3/day at the Meat and Milk Institution Meat Combine in Trabzon was completed in 2021. There are physical, chemical and biological treatment units in the plant.
